Claire or Clare

As Part of the E17 Art trail in 2010 Image17 produced a large piece called ‘The Walthamstow tapestry after Grayson Perry’. Claire or Clare is a series of portraits for the piece with reference to Grayson’s alter ego Claire.

All the Claire or Clares lived in the Borough of Waltham forest and each chose where they would like to have their portrait taken.

The exhibition aims to create a photographic tableau depicting life inWalthamForest, one of London’s outlying Olympic Boroughs. By working in collaboration with each other, the artists are challenging the way they work, the nature of ownership and collective responsibility within the local community. Each artist’s work is interspersed with each other’s, spread out and displayed as part of a single group installation over 15 metres in length.

The group received an Arts Council England award for the exhibition.
