Waltham Forest Council has commissioned Image17 to document community sports groups throughout the Borough in the run up to the 2012 Games.
Image17 is a collective of 14 local professional photographers and this will be the group’s largest collaboration to date. Called Taking Part, the commission involves photographing over 48 groups within the borough ranging from badminton in the local church hall to swimming in the community pool and boxing in the neighbourhood gym.
Image17 aim to celebrate the wealth of sporting opportunities within the borough and the work that these groups do to strengthen community ties, keeping all ages fit and occupied. It will also provide a spotlight on the volunteers, trainers and coaches that provide the enthusiasm, passion and sheer hard work hard needed to sustain these groups.
An exhibition will tour the borough in the run up to the 2012 Games.
